Program for Research Fellowships in the Arts
The following list contains projects of
direct relevance to the research project. The projects have been essential
parts of my development as a composer and performer, and they have served as a
test bed for the musical instrument (ImproSculpt4) developed during the course
of the research project. Where my participation in a project is labeled
“performer”, this means as a musician an improviser. The role as an improviser
contains a certain degree of influence over arrangement and instrumentation.

Audio/art installations
- ”Flyndre” (Sept. 2006 – Sept 2016). Based
on, and an extension to, the sculptor Nils Aas’ work with the same title.
- ”Irrganger” (opening October 2007) installation
at Steinkjer College. Cooperation with visual artist and sculptor Viel
B.Andersen.
- For both installations, I have been
composer, programmer and systems designer. These installations have served
as special ”test cases” (in both the technical and the artistic sense) of
the software instrument ImproScult4. The instrument has been adapted to
the specific artistic demands of the productions, and automation for the
instrument has been composed. Using the instrument for installations
provides an easily controlled setting for using the instrument, as human
reactions from other performing musicians does not occur in this setting
(as opposed to playing improvised music on stage). Elements of interaction
with audience and environment occur in the installations, but this is more
easily predicted because of a clearly defined and limited range of
interactions.
